Initiation
1-Jan-2014 - A mail from Ambernath-Vartha(from Manish) popped up in my mailbox, with the heading "Trek to chopta". The details included - Medium rating trek into Garhwal Himalayas, the trek partners - Gio, and the expected cost.In my teens, the immediate response would have been of-coarse, count me in. But now in my thirties with family around and my reduced level of fitness, many questions peaked into my mind - Can I do it? Will my family be comfortable with me going alone for an adventure(and that to Himalayas)? -- blah blah.
Every question was answered positively by my family and google. and finally I responded - "I am in".
Surprisingly this time, like me many of the expected Varthakaris responded with yes.
Wow! Soon we had people ready, the response was so overwhelming that one of the junior Varthakari who is just one year old also wanted to join.
We were sure that now the trek will not happen or we have to keep her parents out of the plan. But thanks to Gio, they came up with a lodge based trek. After lot of internal discussions, and useless voting, we decided to go with trek to chopta with lodging instead of camping. They also assured that we can decide at run time if we wanted to camp somewhere.
Planning
The planning involved taking into consideration everyone's schedule and deciding travel dates. After shortlisting dates we came up with following concrete plan -11th April 2014 - Board 12247 / BDTS NZM YUVA at Bandra terminus
12th April 2014 - Reach H. Nizammuddin and move to Haridwar by boarding 12055 / DDN JANSHTBDI. Stay at Haridwar.
13th April 2014 - Gio Picks up at Haridwar and we move to Kund.
14th April 2014 - Trek to Deoriatal.
15th April 2014 - Trek To chopta - Tungnath- Chandrasheel.
16th April 2014 - Reach Jayalgarh
17th April 2014 - Water activities at jayalgarh.
18th April 2014 - Move back to haridwar and board train 12172 / HW LTT AC SF to reach Mumbai.
The initial plan was to move by golden temple express and save the lodging cost at Haridwar. But some mismanagement led us to go for Yuva.
We managed to book rooms at Haridwar in hotel Ganga Vilas.
The plan was designed keeping in mind minimum leaves and low cost.
